Children:
These spellings match the literacy skills we are doing this week. Try to learn the rules you have been shown.
Grown-ups:
Glas and Melyn groups have words for comparing. We add 'er' or 'est' to words to show comparisons. The rules are:
* Words ending in 'e' just add 'r' or 'st'.
* Words ending with a vowel then a consonant, double the last letter then add 'er' or 'est'
* Words ending with a 'y', replace the 'y' with an 'i' and then add 'er' or 'est'.
These rules don't work for longer words but they are correct for the spelling this week.
For Coch Group, We are adding 'ing' to a range of words. The rules are:
* Words ending in 'e' lose that 'e' before 'ing' is added.
* Words ending in a vowel and a consonant, double the last letter before adding 'ing'.
* Words ending with a 'y', just add 'ing.
* Words ending with 2 consonant, just add 'ing'.
