Good morning everyone, today we are going to put the skills we learn't yesterday into practice.

If you remember, we learnt about time sequencing words - words we use to put things in the correct order like  - first!

  • Can you think of some other time ordering words?

Yes, that's right  - next, then, after, second, finally,  soon and lastly.

Now, do you remember the story about Growing a Dinosaur well, I want you to listen to it again carefully.

Then, click on the document for your group write the sentences from the story into your books in the correct order.

If you are unsure of a word, ask an adult to explain it to you.

Who loves watching movies?

Well, over the next two days, you are going to have a go at making your own movie.

Watch the video below for some ideas then grab your dinosaurs or any small world animals you have and have a go at acting out the story of 'How to grow a dinosaur.'

Think about any props you will need - you could draw them or use junk modelling to make them.

The most important thing is to try and retelll the story and have some fun.

You will need to practice retelling it until you are happy that you can say it nice and clearly and in the correct order.

It doesn't have to be exactly the same and you could change a bit if you wanted to.

Maths

All groups - complete 10 minutes mental warm on skills you would like more practice with.

Stars, Hexagons & Diamonds
Use any strategies you have used these past few weeks when solving addition and subtraction sums to complete below activities, you can choose to do either one or both activities for your group.  It's Valentines Day on Sunday 14th February, crack the code to find the Valentine words. Next apply your number skills to solve the word problems.

     Stars                                  Hexagons & Diamonds

Stars in your sheet you will see the symbols (-) take away / (+) addition / (x) multiply! Multiply is new for many of you but it is simply repeated addition and means lots of, for example,

4 X 2 = 8 / 4 lots of 2 is 8 (counting in 2s)

3 X 5 = 15 / 3 lots of 5 is 15 (counting in 5s)

Hearts

Toady you will continue to practice your subtraction skills. Write the number story in your book, then use objects or a number line to help you solve the take away sums

Parents so that children can focus on the new sounds they are learning at the start of a each week please can you complete the spelling test on a Friday during distance learning.

All groups - Repeat any activities from the week for your daily recap and then do your spelling test.

Spelling Test - Ask your Parent to read out the spelling words (out of order) for you to write down, get them to mark them and give you a score out of 10. For extra challenge Gruffalos instead of doing your spelling test in a list, perhaps you should write your spelling word in a sentence for the test.

Hi year 1, Happy Chinese New Year. Today we are going to be learning some more about why people celebrate the New Year and how they celebrate it.

Watch the videos below then complete the writing activity to show what you've learnt and understood.

All groups - complete 10 minutes mental warm on skills you would like more practice with.

Today is the 5th time you will take part in the weekly Big Maths Beat That timed challenge, think about - are you improving your time each week!!!!  So before you begin print off the sheet below or write the sums in your book ready to time yourself without working out the answers.

PARENTS IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

The Big Maths challenge is a once a week timed activity and you will be working towards eventually completing this sheet in 30 seconds. You will complete the same sums each week but they will be presented in different orders. Now you all know from learning about time that 30 seconds is not a lot of time and I am not expecting many to be able to complete it in 30 seconds on the 5th attempt.  In fact it will most likely take many weeks for some and others may not get there until towards the end of  year 1.  Read the instructions for your group for a good starting point for your level of learning.  So get comfortable and ask a parent to time you completing the sums in your book or on the sheet.

Stars -  At your level you should be able to mentally recall these addition facts and you will be focusing on improving your time and quick mental recall week by week.

Hexagons - At your level you may be able to mentally recall simple addition facts or you may need to use the strategy where you put the largest number in your head and count on.  For example 6 + 4, put 6 in your head hold up 4 fingers and count on from 6 until all 4 fingers are added to the 6.

Diamonds - Some of  you may be able to use the same strategy as hexagons to solve or you may need to count out objects and add them together to find your answer.

Hearts - At your level you will need to use objects to count into 2 groups and then count them all  together to find your answer.

WHATEVER STRATEGY YOU USE TO SOLVE PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIME YOURSELF AND WRITE IT IN YOUR BOOK OR ON THE SHEET. YOU ARE WORKING TO IMPROVE YOUR TIME WEEK BY WEEK!
