Today we are going to listen to another super rhyming dinosaur story, make yourself comfy, listen carefully and see if you can keep to the beat and identify the rhyming words.
You might need to turn the volume up
Who can tell me - What are rhyming words?
That's right, they are words that sound the same at the end.
If you're unsure, click on the links below to find out more before watching the story.
Wasn't that a fun story - my favourite part was when the dinosaur band started to play because, I liked the words they used 'Do-bop-a-loo-bop' and 'Boomalakka, Boomalakka, whack, whack, whack'. The words sound a bit like music.
What was your favourite part - Why?
Gruffalos and Incredibles Activity
Parents - the next part the children can complete independently. Explain to them what they need to do (see below) and show them how to pause the video on each page.
You're going to need your home learning books and a pen for the next part.
Slime - time
romp - stomp
Billy Goats and Buzz Lightyears Activity
Test your skills by playing the rhyming games
Now complete the writing activity below in your home learning books.
open the document, copy the first word, then try and think of 3 other words that rhyme. Remember that rhyming words often have the same spelling pattern at the end. Like this:
Wake cake bake shake

Watch the story below ‘The Magic Pot’. Can you guess what we will be exploring in maths this week?
Did you guess correctly? YES it is DOUBLING! Doubling is when you add together 2 groups of the same amount. Watch the clip below!

PARENTS it is important that children have a good understanding of what doubling is before moving onto larger numbers and mental recall of double numbers. My favourite way to introduce doubles is using a mirror. Give your child a mirror and ask her or him to hold up one finger. Seeing the reflection of their finger in the mirror instantly demonstrates how to double one. Continue using this method of holding up fingers until they could double to five. We would then explore doubles by placing different objects in front of the mirror and counting them. Take a look at how to teach doubles with a mirror and a clip with fun ideas to help children understand what doubling. Practice both ways of writing a double number sentence: 1 + 1 = 2 / double 1 = 2
MUST BE CLOSE TO LUNCH TIME NOW, SO HAVE A BREAK.
WELL DONE EVERYONE!
Last week, we discovered that dinosaurs could be put into different groups according to what they ate.
Let's refresh our memories.
Watch these videos if you don't know
Now for our independent activity, You are going to have a go at writing a sentence explaining the terms 'carnivore', 'herbivore' and 'omnivore'.
Parents - if you remind the children how to write a sentence and demonstrate doing it, we find it really helps.
Ask:
Billy goats and Buzz Lightyears
Draw a picture of a Carnivore dinosaur, encourage your child to talk about what they have drawn. "What can you tell me about this dinosaur? What does it eat?
How could we write that in a sentence? A what eats meat? Fantastic, that's a great sentence , let's write that.
Adult to help the child (as above) write a simpler sentence underneath -
Parents - if your child is really struggling to write the sentence, write their words on to cut up bits of paper. Support them to say the sentence over and over then find the corresponding words on paper and put them in order. Repeat several times until they are more familiar.
After all that hard work - lets get up, get moving and re -energise with Joe.
A little reminder children, you must read at least once a day on bug club. It does not have to be a different book each day, you can repeat the same book if you want to. Don't forget to make sure you have answered all the questions and clicked on all the bug icons once you have finished the book, so that it shows as being read.
Phonics - Repeat Monday's activities for your group
Please practice your spellings and read a selection of high frequency words that you are unfamiliar with for your group every day.

Take it in turns to turn over just 2 cards on your go to find matching numbers, if you find a matching number you must say what the double number is to win the cards. Try to use mental recall to solve, but if you are not able to do this, use any counting strategies or doubling objects strategies to solve. HAVE FUN!

Hi parents, I uploaded a powerpoint of this lesson below but as it is a video, the links don't work. you can access the links underneath the video. Sorry
Good morning everyone, today, we are going to start exploring 'Poetry'
Does anyone know what Poetry is?
You might not have heard that word before but I'm sure you've heard some poems before. Poems can take on many different forms and the one you're probably most familiar with is nursery rhymes like 'Im a little tea pot' or Mary, Mary quite contrary'. I'm sure you've heard lots of these at home and in school, they're great fun and have nice little tunes and rhyming words.
Now, as we get older, the poems tend to get a bit more interesting and fun. They make us conjure up images in our heads and think and feel different things.
Here's one of my favourite poets reciting a fantastic poem all about chocolate cake. Have a listen, I bet you'll love it too.
Here's another great poet, his poem is all about turkeys - you know, the thing people eat for Christmas dinner!
I love that poem because its really funny and has great rhyming words and rhythm.
Ok, right so, here's what I want you to do. I want you to listen to the next poem By a poet called Spike Milligan and start to learn it off by heart. You can even find some things around the hose to add sound effects if you want.
To do this, you have to practice it everyday a few lines at a time.
Do you think you can do that - I do!
At least there's no writing!
Not Yet.
We'd love to see how you get on, so don't forget to send us a video of you!

Hexagons, Diamonds & Hearts Stars
CLIC CLIC
Today is the 2nd time you will take part in the weekly Big Maths Beat That challenge. So before you begin print off the sheet below or write the sums in your book ready to time yourself without working out the answers.
PARENTS IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
The Big Maths challenge is a once a week timed activity and you will be working towards eventually completing this sheet in 30 seconds. You will complete the same sums each week but they will be presented in different orders. Now you all know from learning about time that 30 seconds is not a lot of time and I am not expecting anyone to be able to complete it in 30 seconds on a second attempt. In fact it will most likely take many weeks for some and others may not get there until towards the end of year 1. Read the instructions for your group for a good starting point for your level of learning. So get comfortable and ask a parent to time you completing the sums in your book or on the sheet.
Stars - At your level you should be able to mentally recall these addition facts and you will be focusing on improving your time and quick mental recall week by week.
Hexagons - At your level you may be able to mentally recall simple addition facts or you may need to use the strategy where you put the largest number in your head and count on. For example 6 + 4, put 6 in your head hold up 4 fingers and count on from 6 until all 4 fingers are added to the 6.
Diamonds - Some of you may be able to use the same strategy as hexagons to solve or you may need to count out objects and add them together to find your answer.
Hearts - At your level you will need to use objects to count into 2 groups and then count them all together to find your answer.
WHATEVER STRATEGY YOU USE TO SOLVE PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIME YOURSELF AND WRITE IT IN YOUR BOOK OR ON THE SHEET.
Finish your volcano models ready for next week.
If you have finished, have a go at some Volcano art
