lesson objective - To understand what an adjective is
Don't forget, you need to be logged in to your Hwb accounts to access some of the activities.
Good Morning everyone, Bore Da.
In literacy today, we are going to be learning about special words that people use to make their talk more exciting. We will be learning about adjectives. That's a long word isn't it.
We all use adjectives everyday in our speech and you know lots of them already. Get comfortable and let's get started.
First let's watch the little video below.
Who can tell me an adjective about your sofa?
Now go and get a fork from the kitchen, how many adjectives can you think of to describe it - is it - shiny, hard, long, straight, smooth, pointy, sharp.
Now click on the picture below to open the PPT and see if you can identify the adjectives.

This week you have been developing your knowledge using non-standards units to measure length and height. Today you are going to begin to explore and develop your understanding of standard units. Length and height is measured using centimetres (cm) which is usually written as cm and metres (m) which is usually written as m.
Before you begin the lesson below I want you to think about the size of the small rulers we have in class, these are 30cm long, then try to picture the large rulers we have in class these are called metre sticks and 1m long, which is the same as 100cm. It would take 3 small rulers to make 90 cm.

For todays lesson you will need a centimetres (cm) ruler or tape measure . If you do not have one at home click on ruler below and print off.
Yesterday you began to develop your understanding of measuring using standard units, and you explored the size of 1 metre which can be written as 1m. Today you will be exploring measuring in centimetres (cm). Can you remember how many cm there are in 1m from yesterdays lesson?
Watch the clips below to find out the correct way to measure using a ruler.

Hexagons & Diamonds - watch any of the clips below for a recap on measuring using non-standard units if needed.

Open the image for your group and work through the Big Maths CLIC number questions to develop mathematical vocabulary and use your number knowledge. Either print off the sheet or write the sums in your book.
Hexagons, Diamonds & Hearts Stars
Today you will begin to take part in the weekly Big Maths Beat That challenge. So before you begin print off the sheet below or write the sums in your book ready to time yourself without working out the answers.
PARENTS IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
The Big Maths challenge is a once a week timed activity and you will be working towards eventually completing this sheet in 30 seconds. You will complete the same sums each week but they will be presented in different orders. Now you all know from learning about time last week that 30 seconds is not a lot of time and I am not expecting anyone to be able to complete it in 30 seconds on a first attempt. In fact it will most likely take many weeks for some and others may not get there until towards the end of year 1. Read the instructions for your group for a good starting point for your level of learning. So get comfortable and ask a parent to time you completing the sums in your book or on the sheet.
Stars - At your level you should be able to mentally recall these addition facts and you will be focusing on improving your time and quick mental recall week by week.
Hexagons - At your level you may be able to mentally recall simple addition facts or you may need to use the strategy where you put the largest number in your head and count on. For example 6 + 4, put 6 in your head hold up 4 fingers and count on from 6 until all 4 fingers are added to the 6.
Diamonds - Some of you may be able to use the same strategy as hexagons to solve or you may need to count out objects and add them together to find your answer.
Hearts - At your level you will need to use objects to count into 2 groups and then count them all together to find your answer.
WHATEVER STRATEGY YOU USE TO SOLVE PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIME YOURSELF AND WRITE IT IN YOUR BOOK OR ON THE SHEET.
