Week 1 January 2021

We hope you've all had a happy and safe Christmas break and are now raring to get started with your learning and investigate everything

'DINOSAURS'

Don't forget to email us your work, we will need to have contact from everyone in our class each day. Even though we are at home, the curriculum is still continuing.

If you have any barriers that are preventing your child from accessing the curriculum please let us know.

You can contact us at

Tuesday

Let's start the week with a song!

Phonics

Run through the Phonics powerpoint.

Encourage your child to notice which letters are in each slide, say the sound the letters make, say the rhyme and then and do the action. If you are unsure of how to pronounce the sounds we have included a video here

Work through the High Frequency words powerpoint - write new ones down on bits of card and play games with them to reinforce learning.

Literacy

All groups, watch the videos on how to put words in alphabetical order

Now complete the online game and practise what your have learnt

Great work everyone - now to really test your knowledge!

Look at the Dinosaur poster below and see what the different types of dinosaur looked like. Sit with your adult and talk about they look like, try to describe them. Then, look at their names and try to read/ say them.

Do you know any of them already - which ones?

Which one is your favourite - Why?

What do you think of the names - they are very long and difficult to say, some sound quite funny!

Right it's your turn now - In your home learning books, write todays date at the top of the page (Tuesday 5th) and write the title 'Alphabetical Order'

I want you to look carefully at the names of the Dinosaurs - If we put them in Alphabetical order, which name would come first?

Thats right, 'Allosaurus'

Which name would come next? Good Job

Now, put the rest of the names in 'Alphabetical order' writing them as a list in your home learning books.

Naming and Ordering the Months of the Year                                Sequencing events

PE

Can you move like a dinosaur?

Test your fitness levels - Can you complete the challenges??

Knowledge and understanding of the world

Watch the video and listen carefully to the information. Ask your parent to explain what a word means  if you don't know. Try to remember 5 things from the video - watch it again if you need to.

Now, get creative, find your felt pens and paints and make a poster about what happened to the dinosaurs. We can't wait to see what you do, make sure you email us your designs so we can upload them on to our gallery.

Wednesday

Please remember to send us your work or a message letting us know how you are finding the activities - we're really missing being with the children and feedback about the activities would be great. Let's do this!

Phonics

Gruffalos & Incredibles -watch the clips below to practice your new sounds

In a while crocodile               Blow the snow                       Phone home

Now open the power point and practice all the sounds you have learnt so far, also take a look at our Super Phonic Hero clip!!!

Billy Goats - watch the videos - can you think of any words with these sounds in?

Chipmunk chooses cheese    Sherry shines her shoes       Theo has a thimble on his thumb

Buzz Lightyears

Now open the clip and practice all the sounds.

Literacy

See how well you recognise                                            If you want, play this online game

the letters of the alphabet - I Challenge you                     create your own word list or use theirs

to complete the game in the time!                                  Its as easy as ABC

Activity

  • Who can tell me what alphabetical order is?
  • How do we put things into alphabetical order?
  • What if the first letters are the same?

Now that you're all Alphabetising experts, todays challenge will be a doddle for you - try to complete it independently, let's see what you know!

Click on the document for your class and you will see your friends names. The challenge is to organise the names into alphabetical order all by yourself!

Write the date ( Wednesday 6th) in your book and underneath write the names as a list - one underneath another.

Parents - Encourage the children to do it by themselves - it doesn't matter if they get it wrong, it will mean that you can demonstrate where they are going wrong - The learning is in them trying hard and using their brains. If  you feel that they are really struggling go back and play the online game a couple of times first or watch the video's from yesterdays lesson.

Billy Goats and Buzz Lightyear groups to choose 10 friends from the list to put in order

Gruffalos & Incredibles use all the names on the lists

Literacy

Click on the picture for your group

Read the text and questions carefully.

Encourage the children to read the text part themselves.

You can help them to read the questions - discuss words that they might not know and explain the meaning eg. 'describe - to talk about what something looks, feels or smells like. The cat was small with white and black fur and pointy ears and a long tail.

Complete the comprehension sheet. Either print it out or just write the answers in your books.

Tip - point out to the children that when we answer in full sentences we use lots of words from the text to help us. For example:

It was a lovely sunny day. The 3 pigs were helping each other to dig the garden and plant carrots.

Q - What were the 3 pigs doing?

A - The 3 little pigs were helping each other to dig the garden and plant carrots.
