*Remember that full sentences means that the sentence makes sense to someone who hasn’t read the question.

Wednesday

To write a short story

Every story needs characters, setting and a plot.

Your story should start with a description of your setting and your characters before introducing a problem and exploring how your characters will solve it.

 

Remember, your story should be exciting to read and have lots of great vocabulary.

 

You may want to plan your story out first.

Write a short story (give yourself about an hour to write the whole thing) using the ‘Story Prompts’ page with pictures of your characters, setting and plot that I would like you to use.

 

Either handwrite your story and send me a picture, or type it on Word and email it to me.

 

Remember, to make your stories as good as possible. Think o some of the writing techniques we have used Eg different sentence starters, adventurous vocabulary etc

Thursday

To use different types of conjunctions

When we write, we often join different clauses (parts of a sentence that make sense on their own) together to make a longer, extended, more interesting sentence. This work looks at different types of conjunction  that you might use to join those clauses together.

Look at the work on the sheet.

Write the sentences (either handwritten in your homework book or typed on Word) and underline the conjunction that you have used.

Send me your work so that I can check it.

To write a dialogue

Watch the video of the penguins.

If you understood penguin, what would they be saying?!

 

Write a conversation involving the penguins based on their movements etc.

You can give the penguins and the keepers names!

 

Set out your writing like a playscript:

Percy (penguin):       Me, me, me! The next fish is for me!

Pamela:                      Oh Percy, you’re so greedy. You had the last 2 fish.

Sharon (keeper):      Oh hi, Katie. Have you come to help me feed them?  They’re really hungry today.

 

Try to make it humorous

To write a non-chronological report

We have looked at the features and structure of non-chronological reports.

A non-chronological report should:

-Have a title

-Have an introductory paragraph giving a summary of who, what, where, and when (E.g. what/when the Tudor period was etc)

-Use headings for each paragraph of information

-Have illustrations and diagrams to support the information

-Use third person and usually present tense (in our case it will be past tense because it refers to a historical period)

-Use a variety of sentence starters

-Use technical and subject-specific vocabulary

-Have a closing paragraph – in this report you may wish to give an overview of life during Tudor times – was it a good time to be alive?

 

*You have two days to complete this work:

Turn all of your research on ‘Life in Tudor Times’ from last week into a non-chronological report. 

Remember that you can’t just copy and paste information off the internet (this is plagiarism), you have to write your own work.

You can write this work in your homework book and photograph and send it to me but, if possible,  it would be easier to write it on a Word document and email it to me as you will then be able to edit it more effectively.

It is important that you reflect on your own learning and look for opportunities to improve.  When assessing your work, you should think about the toolkit and what you needed to do to be successful

Use the evaluation sheet to evaluate your own non-chronological report and ask a parent, older sibling or relative to also evaluate it

To edit my non-chronological report

This is your opportunity to make your non-chronological report the best that it can possibly be.

Think carefully about your own evaluation and the evaluation from your relative.

Also read any feedback from Mrs Bees carefully and respond to it.

Make changes to improve your non-chronological report in response to your own evaluation and feedback/marking from Mrs Bees.

Edit your original draft and then send it to Mrs Bees again.

Last week we looked at some adventurous vocabulary that me may use to describe Henry VIII or his six wives:

-ambitious              -amiable

-loyal                       -fickle

-compliant             -dutiful

-unsympathetic    -brutal

-unattractive

 

Choose 5 of the words, remind yourself of their meaning then write a few sentences to describe who you would use it to describe and why.

 

Open a new Word document on Hwb to write your explanations then email it to me.

To carry out research

We have been looking at non-chronological reports. As you don’t have your research about Henry VIII and his six wives at home, we will change the focus of our report.

 

We will write a non-chronological report about what life was like in Tudor times.  You will need to research a different aspect of life each day and make notes. How you present this is up to you. You may like to separate a Word page into 4 columns (like we might do in school in our books), you may prefer to set it out as a mind map. Remember your notes need to be detailed as you will need to write a paragraph about each area.

 

Life was very different for wealthy people compared to poor people so you may want to consider this in your research.

 

This task ties into the topic homework where you have to present your findings into a presentation.
