Literacy

Phonics

Run through the sounds again then go through the first 100 high frequency words. The children need to be very familiar with both of these and should instantly be able to recognise them when they see them - so lots of practice is needed, short daily sessions are what's best.

Activity

They say Christmas is a time for giving - what do you think the important things are?

Learning objective –To discuss with an adult things you need at Christmas and things that you want at Christmas.

  • Discuss the celebrations at Christmas time - what do you do at Christmas? How do you celebrate with your  family?
  • Look at the pictures  on the PowerPoint and discuss what they think is important to have at Christmas in each picture (what you need) i.e family, home, food etc. TPS
  • Look at the pictures again and discuss what they think  is less important  in the pictures (what you want) I.e presents, chocolate, Christmas tree.
  • Draw or print the stockings sheet in your home learning book and write a list of the things that you need and the things that you want.
