Today you will be learning about the artist Wassily Kandinsky.
He was an artist from Russia. He was born a very long time ago in 1866. He played the piano and had a love for music and art. Music helped him to create wonderful paintings that were very colourful. His paintings have many shapes in them. Have a look at some of his paintings below. What shapes can you see? What colours does he use? Do you like his paintings? Why? Why not?
I would like you to have a go at recreating this painting. You will need a pencil and plain paper to begin. You are going to try making a Kandinsky inspired tree!
Firstly, ask a grown up to help you draw the trunk of a tree. Then paint the trunk black and put aside to dry. Then paint the background blue and set aside to dry. When its dry start drawing circles where there would normally be leaves. Paint the circles in a block colour of your choice. Make sure they are bright colours. Set it aside to dry. When its dry paint another smaller circle inside it but use a different colour and so on.
Your paintings should look a bit like this below.
